We found an ornate oval frame in Bermondsey Market, and whilst lying on the bed in our hotel one afternoon I started to devise a picture to fit. Later that day I saw a little girl in a pub lean forward and place a cigarette in her friend’s mouth, and this little incident I added to the sketches already made.”
